What It Means
Your Debt Burden Ratio is the percentage of your monthly income that goes towards debt repayments — including the mortgage you are applying for, existing loans, and a proportion of your credit card limits.
Why It Matters
Lenders use DBR to decide how much monthly borrowing you can comfortably carry. Most UAE lenders apply a DBR cap — commonly around 50%, though the exact limit varies by lender and borrower profile. A lower DBR generally means more borrowing capacity.
Simple Example
If you earn AED 30,000 per month and your total monthly obligations (new mortgage, car loan and credit card allowance) come to AED 12,000, your DBR is 40%.
